Species stories

Each species story in the Beedex is adapted from the English Wikipedia article on that bee, written by Wikipedia contributors and shared under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. The credit line on every species card opens the source article. Our adaptations of that text are offered under the same licence.

Records and rarity

How often a species has been recorded, which sets its rarity in the game, comes from GBIF occurrence data (CC BY 4.0).

Conservation status

Threat categories follow the IUCN Red List and, for U.S. species, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Companion bee cards

The sixteen companion bees' facts, diets and pollination notes are our own writing, checked against USDA, Xerces Society and university extension sources. Illustrations are original artwork.
